So I currently have an addiction which is NOT facebook or twitter that I wanted to share with some of you who may not have it. It’s the iphone application called INSTAGRAM. I absolutely love it and find myself on it all the time.

Instagram is a free application to share pictures with friends, OR all instagram users. You first start my creating your profile, Uploading a picture of yourself and writing a little about yourself. You can also add a link to your website. Your profile shows you how many photos and followers you have and how many people you are following.

Next you have the option of having a private or public account. At first I was private, but then I realized that no one else can see your pictures or like them. If you want to get a lot of likes and followers, make your profile public. Make sure the switch on Photos are privite is on “off”.  Here you can also edit your profile, edit which applications you would also like to share your instagram photos with, Tumblr, Flickr, Foursquare, Facebook, Twitter, Posterous, etc. You can also change your profile picture and log out.

You can search for friends, invite friends, view photos you’ve liked, your own photos, and search tags.

Not only is Instagram a place to share a photo from your phone, it also has built in photo editing which allows you to choose from a variety of filters and the ability to choose a have a frame or no frame. It also has a built in blur/focusing tool to make some cool effects on your photos.

You use hashtags just like on twitter to tag your photos so that when people search for a tag your photo comes up for them. It’s interesting searching specific tags and browsing through photos.  Here you can also select a location for your picture and choose which other apps to upload your picture to.

You can like pictures and comment them. Just like on twitter if you find a person interesting and would like their pictures to show up on your “feed” there is a follow button so that you can follow them.

Instagram also has a popular page which if your lucky enough you’ll make it on to it!

There is a news feed to see who liked your pictures and who starts to follow you so you can check out their pages as well. You can also view your friends feed and see what pictures they’ve liked and who they’ve started following most recently as well.
